Earlier this year, we sat down with Nick Guthman, the Co-Founder and Executive Director of Blue Future. Blue Future is on a mission to continuously engage, mobilize, and connect young people to progressive electoral campaigns, equipping them with the tools, skills, and network to be effective volunteers and organizers. In a Millennial Politics exclusive, Blue Future is launching the Youth Power Fund!
Blue Future’s Youth Power Fund is a first of its kind grant and fellowship opportunity for progressive student organizers. The goal of the Fund is to support student organizers with direct funding and community organizing training to unleash campus engagement in key Congressional districts around the country.
The Fund will support young people who are ready to work directly with candidates and campaigns to mobilize the youth vote on their campus and community. Their vision includes paying a $1,000 stipend to compensate one student organizer for the Fall semester, and $2,000 will be allocated for volunteer mobilization support like transportation and lodging into a key district, texting programs, food/snacks at weekly phone banks promotional materials, and more.
Guthman shared his excitement on the launch of the Fund, saying, “Students across the country have real power to change our political system. If we organize, we can elect leaders who will stand up for the things we care about, like climate change, criminal justice reform, immigration, student debt, and all the rest. My hope is that, with our partners, we can lead the way in supporting young people who are ready to organize and mobilize for the elections this year!”
Youth leaders are encouraged to learn more about the Fund next week on a webinar Blue Future is hosting. To RSVP for the webinar follow this link: bit.ly/youthpowerfundwebinar
